Telepsychiatry: A tool that brings mental health care closer to people

Telepsychiatry is emerging as a promising strategy for improving access to mental health care in rural areas of Chile, where problems such as geographical barriers and a shortage of specialists remain. This article discusses the benefits and challenges of this model of care, with a view to ensuring they are reflected in the provision of timely care. We hope that, in the future, a dual approach to care will be implemented, through the integration of face-to-face psychiatric care and online care, as this will help to reduce inequalities in access to mental health care in our country.
