Interdisciplinary education-nursing project: raising awareness about early stimulation at the CESFAM ‘Granja Sur’

Introduction: Early stimulation is of great importance in the comprehensive development of infants from the prenatal period to 5-6 years of age. Nursing and Early Childhood Education students from the Universidad del Desarrollo, during visits to the stimulation room at CESFAM Granja Sur, observed low attendance at stimulation sessions. Objective: To find new ways to raise awareness among children's guardians about the importance of early stimulation in infants, its benefits, and knowledge of its content, with the aim of increasing attendance at stimulation sessions. Methodology: Using the Design Thinking methodology and interdisciplinary work, a website project was designed with relevant information on early stimulation. Results: A total of six mothers attended the intervention and participated in 100% of the planned activities. Regarding the final evaluation questionnaire, four of the five questions were answered correctly, which were related to the concept of early stimulation, its benefits and risks. Discussion: A relationship is established between the lack of information received by guardians and the high rate of non-attendance at children's stimulation sessions, which is recognised in the low adherence to the educational intervention. Conclusion: The project achieved its objectives, demonstrating that interdisciplinary work between both degree programmes is essential for carrying out a user-centred project.
