Introduction: Over the last 10 years, the introduction of new techniques for detecting microorganisms involved in genital tract infections in pregnant women has raised questions among healthcare teams about their association with adverse obstetric events, such as premature birth, premature rupture of membranes, spontaneous abortion, among others, and, based on this, how to manage the presence of these infections during pregnancy. Objective: To identify the association between the presence of Mycoplasma genitalium and/or Mycoplasma hominis infection and adverse obstetric outcomes in order to guide healthcare professionals on the need to treat pregnant women with infection. Methodology: A search was conducted for articles published in Pubmed and Scielo between 2013 and 2023. Development: Evidence was found in favour of an association between infection with Mycoplasma genitalium and/or Mycoplasma hominis and premature birth, premature rupture of membranes, and low birth weight, but not with spontaneous abortion. Conclusion: Further studies are needed to categorically recommend screening and treatment for asymptomatic infection with Mycoplasma genitalium and/or Mycoplasma hominis in pregnancy.
