Abstract

Introduction: The estrogen decline characteristic of menopause is a factor that can trigger the onset of postmenopausal osteoporosis, a highly prevalent condition that is prevented by avoiding the reduction of bone mineral density. Various therapeutic strategies exist for this prevention, with menopausal hormone therapy being one viable option. However, this treatment is expensive, and not all women can use it due to adverse reactions or contraindications. Development: Isoflavones are plant-derived compounds with functional and structural properties like estrogen, positioning them as a therapeutic alternative to reduce the risk of osteoporosis. Conclusion: Exploring the possibility of treatment with isoflavones would provide a starting point for future studies, thus enabling the development of new protocols, public policies, and clinical guidelines.
