UX design meets GenAI: Emerging practices from job postings in Singapore

Abstract

Generative AI (GenAI) is driving transformations in creative fields, including User Experience (UX) design. To understand changing employers’ expectations and emerging design practices in this domain, job postings offer valuable data sources in design research. This study extracted job postings from LinkedIn in Singapore and analyzed a selected sample to examine how GenAI is positioned within UX roles. Using inductive thematic analysis, findings reveal latent themes representing ways GenAI is being integrated into UX practice. The discussion considers how these trends might reshape design roles, professional autonomy, and organizational dynamics, draws implications for design education, and situates the findings within critical perspectives on technology. The main contributions include early insights into the impact of GenAI on UX practice and a replicable methodological approach for analyzing job postings. These findings lay the groundwork for further comparative and longitudinal research exploring regional differences and the evolving relationship between GenAI and UX design.
