Base Diseño e Innovación

Base Diseño e Innovación is a bilingual academic journal established in 2014 by the School of Design at the Universidad del Desarrollo. Its mission is to highlight the transformative role of design in driving innovation processes that enhance quality of life while creating social, economic, and cultural value. The journal fosters interdisciplinary academic dialogue and connects key stakeholders from academia, industry, government, and civil organizations, along with professionals and scholars across all design fields. It aims to spotlight emerging areas of design development and promote global collaboration among researchers. By providing open, immediate, and free access to its content, the journal contributes to the democratization of knowledge and the exchange of ideas worldwide.

We hope this message finds you well. We would like to inform you that, from today, Thursday, April 9, through Sunday, April 12, the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform hosting UDD Journals will be undergoing an update. During this period, the platform may experience intermittent performance.

We kindly recommend accessing the system again from Monday, April 13.

Vol. 10 No. 12 (2025): Training the Researchers of the Future. Emerging Practices in Design Schools

In a challenging global context, design education is expanding its theoretical, methodological, and epistemological frameworks by engaging in dialogue with other disciplines and encouraging students to explore complex issues through collaborative, speculative, and reflective approaches. Consequently, an increasing number of undergraduate research projects have managed to transcend curricular limitations, contributing to the development of disciplinary knowledge. This special issue aims to bring together such works, highlighting their academic value, disciplinary contribution, and potential impact on the professional and social environment. Base Diseño e Innovación (BDI) invites graduates and their thesis advisors or mentors to submit articles presenting the results of design research carried out as part of their degree projects between 2018 and 2024. Likewise, academics who have led these initiatives are invited to share their experiences, reflections, and the theoretical and methodological approaches that have guided their teaching practice.
