Abstract
This article is about the historical evolution of the school supervision and the role of educational surveillance in Chile. It is put a great emphasis on its development between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Besides, it is added a brief nalysis on the current design of this supervision, closing the study with the establishment of a series of reflections that reveal the background and relevance of this administrative activity.
