Childhood obesity and overweight in Chile

Abstract

Childhood obesity in Chile has reached alarming figures. With more than 55% of the child population suffering from overweight or obesity, this phenomenon is attributed to factors such as sedentary lifestyles, unbalanced diets, and socioeconomic inequality, among others. The consequences range from physical problems, such as Type 2 Diabetes, to psychosocial effects, such as anxiety and depression. Although measures have been implemented to address the problem, such as the promotion of a balanced diet and regular physical activity, it remains a significant challenge for the country.
