Checklist: level of knowledge of ward nursing professionals in Chile, year 2023.

Objective: To describe the level of knowledge of ward nursing professionals in hospitals and/or clinics in Chile regarding the correct application of the patient checklist in 2023, along with recognising the correct application of the checklist and recognising knowledge related to years of experience. Methodology: Quantitative research with a descriptive cross-sectional design. It seeks to measure the knowledge of nursing professionals. The sample consists of 101 ward nursing professionals currently working in hospitals and/or clinics in Chile. The study variables, limitations, and ethical concepts are described. Results: Nursing professionals who had fewer years of experience working in wards had a higher level of knowledge than those with more experience. Likewise, all age groups had a low percentage of knowledge. Discussion: The sample tends towards low and medium knowledge, with a minority having high knowledge. Only 42.57% of participants are aware of when the checklist should be applied and how to use it in life-threatening situations. Years of experience tend to be inversely proportional to knowledge. Conclusion: We were able to describe the level of knowledge of ward nursing professionals regarding the correct application of the checklist as an important step before any major surgery, at the appropriate times, and how years of experience could influence knowledge.
