Abstract

Introduction: Persistent Delusional Disorder is a psychotic disorder affecting 0.2% of the global population, characterized by delusions without hallucinations, allowing some functional normality. It predominantly appears in adults and is linked to factors such as stress and substance use. The objective of this study is to analyze the hospital discharge rate due to PDD in Chile from 2019 to 2022. Methodology: A descriptive, observational, and cross-sectional study was conducted on HDR due to PDD in Chile from 2019 to 2022, considering age groups, sex, and hospitalization days. Data were obtained from the Department of Health Statistics and Information and the National Institute of Statistics. Ethical approval was not required, and there are no conflicts of interest. Results: The average HDR during the period was 0.24 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Women had a higher rate (0.26) compared to men (0.22). The most affected age group was 65-79 years, with 0.60 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. The longest average hospital stay was in 2021, with 62.35 days. Conclusion: Women and individuals over 65 years were hospitalized more frequently, suggesting the impact of chronic conditions. This is the first epidemiological study on PDD in Chile, providing a sociodemographic profile critical for future research and the development of policies focused on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of PDD.
