Características clínicas Tumor Filodes: Una década de experiencia en Clínica Alemana de Santiago

BACKGROUND: Clinicopathological prognostic factors and the optimal management of Phyllodes Tumors remain uncertain. OBJECTIVE: Characterize and define the clinical and histopathological profile of patients diagnosed with Phyllodes Tumor at our center.  MATERIALS AND METHODS: A longitudinal, retrospective, observational and clinical study was conducted on patients with histopathological diagnosis of Phyllodes Tumor from 2013 to 2023 at the Clínica Alemana in Santiago.

RESULTS: A total of 93 patients diagnosed with Phyllodes Tumor were analyzed. The average age was 41 years (ranging from 17 to 77 years). Of the cases, 82.8% were benign, 9.7% borderline, and 7.5% malignant, with an average size of 23mm, 37mm, and 35mm respectively. Surgery was conservative in 88.3% of the cases. The recurrence rate was 2.85%, occurring only in malignant cases.

CONCLUSIONS: This study characterized the clinical and histopathological profile of patients with Phyllodes Tumor, providing providing relevant data to the limited local literature and contributing to guide future therapeutic strategies. A bimodal pattern in the incidence of borderline and malignant tumors according to age was identified, a novel finding with possible clinical implications. The observed low recurrence raises questions about differences in surgical management.
