Abstract

Can the application of nanotechnology to copper generate a powerful tool to design new materials with antimicrobial properties? Yes. Today it is possible to confer the antimicrobial action of copper to practically any material by selecting the proper nanoparticle and processing of the compound. Plasticopper, a company that is spin-off of the University of Chile, is an example of the sale of these technologies in the design of a series of products with biocidal properties.
