Abstract

In February 2013, the head of government of the then Federal District, Miguel Ángel Mancera, announced to secretaries, delegates and press the creation of the Laboratory for the City. With this act, the first laboratory of its kind in Latin America was created. The Laboratory for the City is the experimental area of the CDMX government. Being a space for speculation and rehearsal, it launches provocations that propose new ways of approaching relevant topics for the city, incubates pilot projects and promotes multidisciplinary meetings around civic innovation and urban creativity. The Laboratory creates dialogues and complicities be-tween government, civil society, private initiative and non-gov-ernmental organizations with the purpose of reinventing, as a whole, some city and government territories.
