Abstract

This research seeks to contribute to the dissemination of the industrial and graphic heritage of the country, through the analysis of the visual communication of packaging and labels of biscuits, candies and chocolates of the Chilean industries between the years 1892 and 1945. European immigrants introduced biscuits, candies and chocolates in chile and created the first factories in the field at the end of the 19th century. Today, most of them and their products are still current. The study consists of documenting and analyzing the material found at the national institute of industrial property (INAPI) or in industries and companies in the field, in order to study the national contexts in which they occurred, and the graphic elements that compose their design. The research detects that color, ornaments and typography are the most identifying resources of labels and packaging in the study, which are also linked to technologies and inspirations of the time in which they were produced. Thanks to the material gathered during the study, it is possible to generate knowledge that contributes to the discipline of graphic design in Chile.
