Epidemiological situacion of kidney neoplasm in Chile

Abstract

Introduction: Renal Cell Carcinoma is a neoplasm with origin in the renal cortex tubules. During the last decades, this Cancer has increased its incidence and mortality, with more impact in the male population and those over 65 years of age. Objective: This study will describe the epidemiology and national situation of Renal Cell Cancer regarding its magnitude, incidence, prevalence, discharges, and mortality considering variations over time, place and sex, between the years 2002-2019. Methodology: A retrospective descriptive and longitudinal observational study with quota sampling of the Chilean population with Renal Cell Cancer. The study was based on the mortality and discharge Chilean records between the years 2002-2019. Result: Data shows an increase in mortality by 19.5% and hospital discharges by 61,5% from 2002 to 2019. Additionally, an unequal distribution between regions, shows high mortality rates in Magallanes and significant impact in males. Discussion: When analyzing the data over time, every studied parameter rises between 2002 to 2019. Moreover, focus is on a 2:1 ratio between men and women and a high mortality in extreme regions for this disease. Conclusion: It is important to promote research about the prevention and early detection of Renal Cell Carcinoma in order to offer early treatment for this pathology.
