Abstract
This paper analyzes the veracity of the very widespread assertion that the principle of subsidiarity contained in the Constitution of 1980 is responsible for the social problems that Chile currently suffers, causing the so-called “social outbreak” of October 2019. The historical and dogmatic origin of the subsidiarity, its relationship with the common good, and the role that the Charter of 1980 attributes to the State of Chile are studied, also analyzing a set of interpretative biases that have greatly influenced the settlement of the aforementioned assertion.
